Bass tutor Alan Mian is a highly sought-after session player with an international reputation. Boasting over a decade’s experience, playing jazz, fusion, funk, soul, r&b and musical theatre, he has played with some of the biggest names in each respective genre. A keen writer, he is also a regular contributor to Total Guitar and Making Music magazines.
Alan’s impressive list of credits, as both a live and recording bassist, includes gigs with Jocelyn Brown, Alexander O’Neal and The Drifters, Barry Harris, Ian Carr, Jim Mullen, John Surman, and jazz legend Wynton Marsalis. His theatrical work includes stints in the orchestra pit playing in such classic musicals as The Official Tribute to the Blues Brothers, 125th Street, and The Counterfeit Stones.
Always in demand, Alan is currently playing in a number of professional outfits, including The Allstars Collective and The Amit Chatterjee Alliance, alongside former Joe Zawinul guitarist Amit Chatterjee. He also manages The Soul Coalition, the UK’s premier funk, soul, and r&b function band with a line-up including some of Britain’s best session players, and acts as musical director to acclaimed singer/songwriter Me’sha Bryan.
